Birmingham, 30 October 2023 – Teens in AI is set to host a two-day Hackathon in Birmingham on 2 and 3 November 2023. This AI For Good Hackathon underpins the collective commitment to responsible AI and aligns closely with the goals of the UK Government’s global AI Safety Summit, taking place at Bletchley Park on 1 November 2023.

The AI Safety Summit aims to address the evolving landscape of frontier AI, its potential risks, and the importance of fostering international collaboration for AI safety not only as a global community but also at grassroots within organisations. Teens in AI’s Hackathon mirrors these principles, showcasing their dedication to fostering responsible, ethical AI leadership among the younger generation.

Since its inception at the United Nations AI for Good Global Summit in 2018, Teens in AI has been instrumental in guiding over 12,000 young minds across 45 countries, leading initiatives that resonate with UN Sustainable Development Goals. This Hackathon is another stepping stone in their journey to provide teens, aged 12 to 18, the platform and knowledge to create AI solutions with societal benefit at their core.

Elena Sinel, Founder and CEO of Teens in AI, remarked, “The AI landscape is evolving, and at Teens in AI our goal is to prepare the youth for it. The Beiersdorf Care Beyond Skin powered by Teens in AI hackathon in Birmingham aligns with the principles of the AI Safety Summit, and is a testament to our commitment. Here, diverse young minds come together to drive real-world change, reflecting the ethos of both the Summit and Teens in AI. This event presents an exciting opportunity to extend our reach to underserved communities throughout the UK and Europe, and empower the next generation of ethical AI researchers, entrepreneurs, and leaders.

The work Teens in AI does illustrates its deep commitment to providing young people with the skills they need to succeed in an increasingly tech-driven world. By demystifying responsible AI and technology, they are empowering teens, especially those from under-resourced communities, to pursue careers in these fields. Participants will engage in practical, fun, and collaborative activities while addressing United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) challenges with innovative tech solutions for good. The programme includes workshops on AI ethics and tech skills training, all delivered with the support of specialists-in-field mentors.

About the Teens in AI and Beiersdorf Partnership

Recognising the importance of equipping young people with the skills they need to succeed in tomorrow’s world, the partnership between Teens in AI and Beiersdorf aims to provide these skills to those who may not have the opportunity otherwise. By making the world of responsible AI and technology more accessible, young people from under-resourced communities can be inspired and empowered to shape their dreams and build a better future for themselves and their communities. Teens in AI and Beiersdorf have joined forces to create a tangible impact by organising a series of nine in-person hackathons across Beiersdorf Group’s European locations.
