Reflecting on 2024, it is remarkable to see how our programmes have evolved and deepened their impact year on year. Comparing our performance with 2023, we have not only expanded our reach but also strengthened our commitment to inclusivity, innovation, and ethical AI education.
Participation from state-run schools continues to rise, underscoring our mission to make AI education accessible to those who would otherwise lack such opportunities. This year, 75% of participants came from state schools, a testament to our focus on inclusivity. Gender diversity also remains a cornerstone of our success, with girls* representing an all-time 57% of participants—a steady and vital step towards greater equity in technology fields.
A standout achievement has been the growth in engagement hours contributed by mentors and instructors. These hours surged by 135% compared to 2023, reflecting the extraordinary dedication of our community to nurturing the next generation of leaders in AI.
According to PwC’s 2024 Global AI Jobs Barometer, sectors more exposed to AI are experiencing nearly five times higher labour productivity growth than those less exposed. This surge underscores the critical importance of equipping young minds with AI skills, ensuring they are prepared to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven world. Our participants have shown a significant year-on-year improvement in their understanding of AI ethics and teamwork, two pillars essential to building a thoughtful and collaborative AI ecosystem.
Beyond the numbers, our impact is reflected in the real-world innovations driven by our participants—like our IWD Global Techathon campaign overall winning team from Ukrainian’s ground-breaking app, ConnectAbility (pages 32-34). Their success embodies our belief in the transformative power of youth when given the right tools and platform.
