Ensuring Young Voices Shape the Future of AI
Date: Tuesday, 4 February 2025
Venue: The Octagon, Queen’s Building, Queen Mary University of London
Teens in AI is proud to collaborate with The Alan Turing Institute for the Children’s AI Summit, a landmark event amplifying young voices in discussions on AI’s impact and future.
This event, hosted by The Alan Turing Institute’s Children & AI team with Queen Mary University of London, and supported by LEGO Group, Elevate Great, and EY, will gather over 100 children (8-18) from across the UK to share their perspectives on AI with global leaders, policymakers, and developers. Through panels, performances, and interactive sessions, children will discuss AI’s current and future roles.
Teens in AI’s Role:
As a champion of youth empowerment in AI, Teens in AI is honoured to play a significant role in this event. Our Founder and CEO, Elena Sinel, has been invited to contribute in multiple key capacities:
➡️ Chair and Judge the Pitching Session “Future AI”:
During the pitching session there will be 5 young people pitching their ideas for how they would like to see AI used. Two of these young people are winners from the pitching competition we ran before Christmas, and the other three have been selected through their involvement in events with Teens in AI.
➡️ Deliver Opening and Closing Keynotes for the “Future AI” session
➡️ 12 Teens in AI alumni will actively contribute
Why the Children’s AI Summit?
AI is rapidly transforming the world, yet children—most impacted by these changes—are often absent from its development discussions. This summit seeks to change that by centering young voices. It provides a platform for children to share views on AI’s benefits, risks, and ethical challenges, shaping AI policy ahead of the Paris AI Action Summit on 10-11 February 2025.
From the Summit to the Global Stage ~ A key outcome will be the Children’s Manifesto on AI—recommendations developed by young participants, capturing their hopes and concerns for AI. This manifesto will be presented at the AI Action Summit in Paris, where global leaders will discuss AI governance.
A Shared Vision for Ethical AI:
Our collaboration with The Alan Turing Institute aligns with our mission: to create pathways for young people to engage in responsible AI development and leadership. This summit is a step towards equipping the next generation to shape AI for everyone’s benefit.
